The Hardwick Board of Selectmen convened on January 8, 2024, addressing a range of municipal matters. Key actions included approving a liquor license amendment for Mimi's Coffee House, accepting the annual Mayflower valuation contract, and appointing a new Library Trustee. The Board also discussed town vehicle use policy and postponed the interim chief's salary discussion. A significant portion of the meeting was dedicated to a resident's ongoing concern about sewer gas entering their home, prompting the Board to initiate an investigation by town inspectors. The meeting concluded with a recognition of Fire Chief Ray Walker's retirement and honors for Deputy Chief Frank Hansen and Bob Bagdonas for their decades of service to the Hardwick Fire Department.

Definitely the um licenses that are issued by the ABC are just blanket with restaurant so even if it's I mean other than a club but even if it's a bar it's still a restaurant that they could serve food if they wanted to so they can allow you know if somebody wants to come in
And they've already had breakfast but want a mimosa with and their husband's going to have breakfast like they're not restricted in that way right could I come in and have a shot in a beer I mean I technically you could but we are not advertising for that by any means I would rather not do that with
Donuts and be but doesn't it doesn't yeah it doesn't go well but all right thank you I don't mean to put you on yeah we're booking a lot of different events and stuff yeah I have baby showers and uh retirement parties and stuff like that so the ability to have
All of that to go with it would be good questions light I don't have any issues with it no you sir no I me business wants to expend
Good luck to you honestly yeah and anybody here to speak for this or against this thank you um this hearing is
Closed 63 and I se the motion I would make a motion to approve the application for Mimi's Coffee House of Hardwick from wine and malt to an all liquor license excuse me oh and change of manager sorry
Second all in favor I thank you I just need the local licensing Authority certification signed by you guys here something you want to give me a call tomorrow maybe you can come in at some
Point and I can make a copy of stuff for you yeah and um we'll send it off to the ABC tomorrow Wednesday something like that okay awesome thank you so much and we have a a joint meeting of
The library Trustees for a new appointment but we're scheduled for 6:45 it's not a public hearing but we should probably wait any of the other business
Sure there's a Mayflower contract that we have to sign that I have to sign yeah annually um yeah we do this every year every yeah it's just basically housekeeping um it's the software for the
Assessors there's two places for decide we agreeable you want a motion sure I would make a motion to accept the Mayflower valuation proposal looks like in the amount of
$3,800 is that right it just oh the 5,000 the first P say 38 so they two separate ohing okay so two separate all right hold on I'll make a motion to accept the
Mayflower valuation proposal for new construction building permit measure and list in the amount of $3,800 and for the U personal property class 504 5050 valuation in the amount of
$5,000 second that all in favor I all it is he's sting a different one and then there's if you just want to
Give me the one you signed and then the second this one he has to sign still this one this one he just signed yeah just sign this one too for both proposal
Copy you know I'm easily confused I'm going to have to correct that I signed it for 23 that's 24 want sign that one I'll sign this
Corre it's moving pretty quick yeah it is okay and we have many uh meeting minutes all before my time do you want
To deal with that have you read through them I have okay I I can't vote or right so it's um this one is no what December 11th is is that's the one you just asked me what
You had referred to so that are you good with that one I'm good with that one okay Rob are you good with them yes okay I would make a motion to approve the meeting minutes from December 11th 2023 October 20th 2022 October 18th 2022 and
October 11th 2022 any discussion all in favor I I what um discussion policy regarding
Operation of town vehicles on private time yeah we had talked briefly about it at the last meeting about whether or not we had a policy and we do have an extensive policy um 10.2 vehicle use for employees with um you know the policy
Procedures applicability and um it's in the person enforcement it's in the Personnel plan and it's also included in all contracts when we re when we renegotiated all the contracts we inserted specific language that they cannot use it on personal time
And you know they've all signed them so we have a pretty pretty um Ironclad vehicle policy okay um Appo of this did tell Josh peas that he could take the truck home and keep his he would
Keep his gear in the truck so if he's responding from out of town if he's not home he goes home to bring the truck to the station rather than have the truck sit at the station I think that's what Ray did yeah yeah so as long as he's not using to go to work or something that's
That's I told him about that yeah all right but that's I think what would brought this up MH and uh we were listed to talk about his salary as he's interim Chief but tonight he has a double shift at his other job so he has to wait until
The 20th um we have a donation from the East quaden Land Trust yeah every year um well every year since I've been here the East quein Land
Trust has been graciously donating to the town of Hardwick $300 and since I've been here as well you've authorized it to go to the park and wreck department because it is given in the nature of open space and
Recreation I don't have a phone agreeable okay do you want a motion sure I would make a motion the East CL and land trust donation goes to the park and rec department second that all in favor run out of things to talk about
Here committee reports anybody here want to make a committee report on also I typically those would be like department head reports but since the our first Tuesday of the month fell on the second um last week we're having it tomorrow so I'll have all the reports for you uh at the
Next meeting 20th on the 20th yeah all right just Mr chairman yes Matrix Matrix update Matrix um I spoke with Chris um Murphy I think it is from
Matrix regarding is it Chris you he he referred to you a lot because you were very involved in the it's in my email but I'm sorry I I don't think I wrote it down but it's about Spring Hill it's about Spring Hill and it's about um just including um including the streets that
Come from Barry Spring Hill Road and Barry into Hardwick that are not connected to cable and um this is fiber so Chris Lynch Chris Lynch okay thank you sorry um it's faster it's more reliable it's lighter because it's glass and it's just overall a better system
From what he says I don't know you know exactly the difference is between cable and and fiber but I know fiber is faster and uh we had an just a really initial rudimentary conversation about you know the town being interested in pursuing this and there's a uh um a
Grant from MBI so in from the FCC or you know so um it would essentially probably cost the town nothing I talked about you know there were installation fees for installations Beyond 300 ft and we know a lot of houses could be set back more
We have to have more conversations on that um and then the criteria that we need to know before we apply for this that he is going to call me soon he's in Peter Sam or Barry once a week and we can just take a ride out and see what the roads are Eric uh offer to come we could take the electric vehicle and just
Kind of go and see what is out there that could possibly be utilized um by this service um so I just spoke to I I was hoping when this was um when we posted the agenda that we would I would have more information but I talked to him on Friday and I didn't get really as much and it's not a huge rush because
The application doesn't do until April okay but instead of you know screaming at the end I like to if I we can do it at a time we will so but I'll probably have a lot more information for you at the next meeting as soon as he calls me it wouldn't be a big deal to drive around out there there not that many
Roads but that's good they probably are not served yet yeah okay so we'll wait to hear yes ma'am under committee reports the townhouse will be hosting a
Vaccine clinic on Sunday January 21st I think it's from 11: to 2 I put a poster up out here um and we're putting posters up all over it's uh sponsored by
Quob and they don't need any help other than the use of the building they've done this before yes they did this before it'll be both flu vaccine and Co vaccine adults and children both kinds of covid vaccine and people can
Register but they will try to have enough vaccine for people who don't register and I've told the Board of Health that good thank you go get my flu shot if I don't have it by that's very
Good good okay we're good um we have a joint meeting uh with the library trustees from the Page Memorial Library about a new appointment do we uh I guess we're in a legal meeting
So uh We've posted this I know that the trustees have received an essentially an application from Stacy Hill who would like to fill out Ned Kelly's term um we have to appoint
Together um for your suggestion it's been posted and I don't believe we have anybody else that has put in a letter so U that being the case I would look for a motion from anybody except you uh to uh to appoint Stacy Hill as a
Trustee of the page Library I would make a motion to appoint Stacy Hill as a trustee to the library to um should it say to for until the next election till the next election yeah because the trustees have voted to put that on the B
On the ballot right good the second that discussion last chance to back out all in favor I I opposed thank you welcome to our Merry
Little B thank you thanks all right well we thought we were going to be here all night um any new business no I don't have anything um but
I guess our visitors Wen aren't coming visitors comments has in like an issue that I would like to address is I do have an issue i' like to address yeah um so we
Are having time at our house I live on high road um and I know it was addressed at a November meeting with Scott Potter of the SE Department I've been in I've been chatting with him for probably about two years now about the situation so we're experiencing a very
Very um overwhelming unbearable smell of sewer gases that are coming directly through our roof vent pipe um we live off of Hardwick Road and so I know that that has been an ongoing issue for quite some time now um and this began when we had re-rooted our sewer system about 2
Years ago and um there's just it's unbearable and it's it's just it's toxic and and we have we can't do anything about it um so he Scott had provided some you know different ideas he said well you know every sewer smells
Every septic system smells but if you can't be outside of your house or have your windows open that is a different problem um and it's not a septic system cuz we would take care of that if that were it so we are looking for some type of guidance or support or um something
Anything that can be done that is not our responsibility at the meeting in November it was stated as homeowner responsibility um but we are just unaware of how we can mitigate this and how we can solve this problem so when you say that um it got
Moved it got changed two years ago yes what happened there could you explain that yes so our sewer line um it was original to the house from the' 60s and it had gone um through our neighbor's property and it was it was extremely long and it had gone obviously to Hardwick Road
And instead of tearing up our neighbors lawn um the we had a sewer company and they um they ran it to kind of the end of our driveway and they' rerouted it to again to Hardwick road but it's closer so it is a direct line and we have you
Know obviously larger pipes um to meet the standards and with that direct line all the gases are coming directly up through roet and go ahead um do you have the did they put together like a design when they routed this line for you do
You have they should have submitted some kind of like a plan to Scot or somebody does somebody have that plan um they must I know that they had you know pulled it gotten the permits I know Scot the highway department everybody was involved when it first happened and they did as far as I know everything
Was done accordingly because what should be in there there should be a a check valve that prevents right anything from coming from that line back at you so I had inquired about that after the fact so I mean again we were how would we know that this would happen um and so
Scott did check into that and that is not a requirement um that could have been placed on if we had requested it which we obviously would have had we known that this would be happening um so it's it's not required this is you're on high road
Pressure system and well it's a pressure system coming through there right down on high road pressure system I think ends at the pumpking station no it would end just above where you're tied that's right cuz it would end at I think it's PA
Right it's right up above that I think yeah cuz you're you're at like the intersection High Street your your line is at the intersection like of high road and Har Road yes we have a good map here who is they who is they
Our SE um it was a company out of Rutland I think it was JV and it's been two years so I working for the town it was an independent company they hired yeah we hired them we paid for it just just trying to
Get I've been involved in the correspondence been copied and Scott has gone out there he's had the plumbing inspector out there sping with Scott about this and the vent pipe was hot yeah and he's definitely suggesting that something be done but not through the sewer department he doesn't feel that
It's the sewer department that's causing it or our town right infrastructure the same I I would think that between the building inspector and our plumbing inspector everybody should they'll take a look cuz this is this isn't
Normal so if they all take a look maybe they can figure out what's going on maybe a check valve in her case was necessary would be a necessary thing but let's I think if we have our Inspectors make sure that it's not a internal issue with the house which just
To clarify and then we'll have to go elsewhere to talk to like an engineer or something and figure out we'll have to keep track of who did it the company that did the installation right yeah yeah okay I mean I do have I'm sure the paperwork file some we at
Home um but I mean we had to pay you know almost $30,000 to have this done out of our own Pockets so then to have this problem now and then for it to be on our shoulders again um we just I mean we can't we can't do that right so I if you are willing to look into that and
And I can provide any information that you need I'd be glad to do so well we got to help figure this out oh absolutely figure out what the problem is where why why it's happening right right I mean Scott believes that whatever information he has that something within the house but the
Plumbing inspector should be able to look at that verify that everything inside the house is correct right and if that's the case then it it most likely is outside the house you're up above there's an elevation there right you're coming downhill to hardw road so maybe
It's well I don't know I not only enough composting to it's it's almost like it's acting like their thing is acting like a stin PL right right so which that's usually why you put backers right into
Pump that to be able to kick back at him but yeah and you're a breather your stin pipe is hot Scott was talking about my husband had mentioned that um he had gone up onto the roof during the summertime um so I don't know if that is directly related spot seems to think it's not I mean it could have been just
Summer because it was summer um and so his his main concern was um we had mentioned that two times that there was a smell of super gas in the house first time when was we were having a renovation done and the toilet wasn't properly plugged um that hasn't been a problem so it's not inside it's it's
It's outside like and it hasn't happened while Eagle Hill has been on break for Thanksgiving and Christmas it is directly when they come back it's like Wednesday Thursday Friday nights um it's it's literally unbearable and it is outside I mean as soon as you pull into
Our road or into our driveway even our neighbors we have new neighbors um were asking us what you know was happening what's wrong with yeah and you know it I mean it looks poorly on us and it's and it's definitely not us sounds like but I'm speaking on a term just not not
Seeing it but right not seeing it but so as a board of Select as a select board we see if we can get tell our inspectors on it right yep could I just have your name and address for the record and so I have
It for yep it's Bobby BBI hyphen Jean j last name is lanard l n i r okay and we're at 23 High Road okay got it all right well we'll get our
U experts on it you the phone number I have I've been in I've in the emails is your phone is your phone number in the emails signature probably not it is 978 okay 25 7
2674 okay I'll be in touch thank you apprciate it m I said it unless you if it's going out it's doesn't make sense so right could be a bad installation
Horrible to horrible I know I thought we were gaining ground on the smell down there too so except for your house it seems I wish it's flammable too no smoking well it's dangerous yeah it's just disgusting yeah yeah thank
You right any other new business any other old business any other visitors comments Raymond's supposed to be here Bobby is not coming oh okay he just text texed me and said I won't make it he's
Not feeling good so okay he was sick over the weekend so well anything else for you guys I'm good so I um asked Nicole to U

still [00:07:22] this one this one he just signed yeah [00:07:25] just sign this one [00:07:28] too [00:07:29] for both [00:07:30] proposal [00:07:38] copy you know I'm easily [00:07:44] confused I'm going to have to correct [00:07:46] that I signed it for 23 that's [00:07:49] 24 want sign that one I'll sign this [00:07:56] corre it's moving pretty quick yeah it [00:08:03] is [00:08:05] okay and we have uh [00:08:08] many uh meeting [00:08:11] minutes all before my time do you want [00:08:14] to deal with that have you read through [00:08:16] them I have okay I I can't vote or right [00:08:22] so it's um this one [00:08:25] is no what December 11th is is [00:08:30] that's the one you just asked me what [00:08:32] you had referred to so that are you good [00:08:35] with that one I'm good with that one [00:08:36] okay Rob are you good with them yes okay [00:08:40] um I would make a motion to approve the [00:08:43] meeting minutes from December 11th 2023 [00:08:47] October 20th 2022 October 18th 2022 and [00:08:51] October 11th [00:08:56] 2022 any [00:08:58] discussion all in favor I [00:09:02] I [00:09:06] um what um discussion policy regarding [00:09:10] operation of town vehicles on private [00:09:13] time yeah we had talked briefly about it [00:09:16] at the last meeting about whether or not [00:09:18] we had a policy and we do have an [00:09:20] extensive policy um 10.2 vehicle use for [00:09:25] employees with um you know the policy [00:09:28] procedures um [00:09:30] applicability and um it's in the person [00:09:34] enforcement it's in the Personnel plan [00:09:36] and it's also included in all contracts [00:09:39] when we re when we renegotiated all the [00:09:42] contracts we inserted specific language [00:09:45] that they cannot use it on personal time [00:09:48] and you know they've all signed them so [00:09:49] we have a pretty pretty um Ironclad [00:09:53] vehicle [00:09:55] policy okay um Appo of this uh [00:10:00] did tell Josh peas that he could take [00:10:02] the truck home and keep his he would [00:10:06] keep his gear in the truck so if he's [00:10:09] responding from out of town if he's not [00:10:12] home he goes home to bring the truck to [00:10:14] the station rather than have the truck [00:10:16] sit at the station I think that's what [00:10:19] Ray did yeah yeah so as long as he's not [00:10:22] using to go to work or something that's [00:10:25] that's I told him about that yeah all [00:10:28] right but that's I think what would [00:10:29] brought this up MH and uh we were listed [00:10:34] to talk about his salary as he's interim [00:10:38] Chief but tonight he has a double shift [00:10:42] at his other job so he has to wait until [00:10:45] the [00:10:52] 20th um we have a donation from the East [00:10:56] quaden Land [00:10:58] Trust yeah every year um well every year [00:11:01] since I've been here the East quein Land [00:11:03] Trust has been graciously donating to [00:11:05] the town of Hardwick [00:11:07] $300 and since I've been here as well uh [00:11:10] you've authorized it to go to the park [00:11:12] and wreck department because it is given [00:11:15] in the nature of open space and [00:11:21] Recreation I don't have a phone [00:11:24] agreeable okay do you want a motion sure [00:11:27] I would make a motion the East CL and [00:11:30] land trust donation goes to the park and [00:11:32] rec department second that all in [00:11:38] favor run out of things to talk about [00:11:48] here committee [00:11:50] reports anybody here want to make a [00:11:52] committee report on also I typically [00:11:56] those would be like department head [00:11:58] reports but since the our first Tuesday [00:12:00] of the month fell on the second um last [00:12:03] week we're having it tomorrow so I'll [00:12:05] have all the reports for you uh at the [00:12:06] next meeting 20th on the 20th [00:12:11] yeah all right just Mr chairman yes [00:12:15] Matrix Matrix [00:12:17] update Matrix um I spoke with [00:12:23] Chris um Murphy I think it is from [00:12:26] Matrix regarding is it Chris you he he [00:12:30] referred to you a lot because you were [00:12:31] very involved in the it's in my email [00:12:34] but I'm sorry I I don't think I wrote it [00:12:36] down but it's about Spring Hill it's [00:12:38] about Spring Hill and it's about um just [00:12:40] including um including the streets that [00:12:45] come from Barry Spring Hill Road and [00:12:47] Barry into Hardwick that are not [00:12:50] connected to cable and um this is fiber [00:12:54] so Chris Lynch Chris Lynch okay thank [00:12:56] you sorry um it's faster it's more [00:12:59] reliable it's lighter because it's glass [00:13:01] and it's just overall a better system [00:13:04] from what he says I don't know you know [00:13:07] exactly the difference is between cable [00:13:08] and and fiber but I know fiber is faster [00:13:11] um and uh we had an just a really [00:13:15] initial rudimentary conversation about [00:13:18] um you know the town being interested in [00:13:20] pursuing this and there's a uh um a [00:13:25] grant from MBI so in from the FCC or you [00:13:32] know so um it would essentially probably [00:13:35] cost the town nothing I talked about you [00:13:37] know there were installation fees for um [00:13:40] installations Beyond 300 ft and we know [00:13:42] a lot of houses could be set back more [00:13:44] we have to have more conversations on [00:13:46] that um and then the criteria that we [00:13:49] need to know before we apply for this [00:13:51] that he is going to call me soon he's in [00:13:54] Peter Sam or Barry once a week and we [00:13:56] can just take a ride out and see what [00:13:58] the roads are Eric uh offer to come we [00:14:01] could take the electric vehicle and just [00:14:03] kind of go and see what is out there [00:14:05] that could possibly be utilized um by [00:14:08] this service um so I just spoke to I I [00:14:11] was hoping when this was um when we [00:14:14] posted the agenda that we would I would [00:14:15] have more information but I talked to [00:14:17] him on Friday and I didn't get really as [00:14:19] much and it's not a huge rush because [00:14:21] the application doesn't do until April [00:14:23] okay but instead of you know screaming [00:14:26] at the end I like to if I we can do it [00:14:28] at a time we will so but I'll probably [00:14:30] have a lot more information for you uh [00:14:32] at the next meeting as soon as he calls [00:14:34] me it wouldn't be a big deal to drive [00:14:37] around out there there not that many [00:14:39] roads but that's good they probably are [00:14:42] not served yet [00:14:45] yeah okay so we'll wait to [00:14:51] hear yes ma'am under committee reports [00:14:55] uh the townhouse will be hosting a [00:14:57] vaccine clinic on Sunday January [00:15:01] 21st I think it's from 11: to 2 I put a [00:15:06] poster up out here um and we're putting [00:15:10] posters up all over it's uh sponsored by [00:15:15] quob and they don't need any help other [00:15:19] than the use of the building they've [00:15:21] done this before yes they did this [00:15:23] before it'll be both flu vaccine and uh [00:15:28] Co vaccine adults and children both [00:15:31] kinds of covid vaccine and people can [00:15:36] register but they will try to have [00:15:39] enough vaccine for people who don't [00:15:41] register and I've told the Board of [00:15:43] Health [00:15:45] that good thank [00:15:48] you go get my flu shot if I don't have [00:15:51] it [00:15:53] by that's very [00:15:57] good good okay we're good um we have a [00:16:02] joint meeting uh with the library [00:16:04] trustees from the Page Memorial Library [00:16:07] about a new [00:16:09] appointment do we uh I guess we're in a [00:16:12] legal meeting [00:16:15] um so uh We've posted this I know that [00:16:20] the trustees [00:16:21] have received an essentially an [00:16:24] application from Stacy Hill who would [00:16:26] like to fill out Ned Kelly's [00:16:29] term um we have to appoint [00:16:34] together um for your suggestion it's [00:16:37] been posted and I don't believe we have [00:16:40] anybody else that has put in a [00:16:43] letter so U that being the case I would [00:16:47] look for a motion from [00:16:49] anybody except [00:16:51] you uh to uh to appoint Stacy Hill as a [00:16:56] trustee of the page Library I would make [00:16:59] a motion to appoint Stacy Hill as a [00:17:04] trustee to the library to um should it [00:17:09] say to for until the next election till [00:17:11] the next election yeah because the [00:17:13] trustees have voted to put that on the B [00:17:16] on the ballot right [00:17:17] good the second that [00:17:22] discussion last chance to back [00:17:26] out all in favor I [00:17:29] I [00:17:31] opposed thank you welcome to our Merry [00:17:35] Little B thank you [00:17:40] thanks all [00:17:42] right [00:17:44] well we thought we were going to be here [00:17:46] all night um any new [00:17:51] business no I don't have anything um but [00:17:54] I guess our [00:17:56] visitors Wen aren't coming visitors [00:18:03] comments has in like an issue that I [00:18:06] would like to address is I do have an [00:18:09] issue i' like to address yeah um so we [00:18:12] are having time at our house I live on [00:18:14] high road um and I know it was addressed [00:18:17] at a November meeting with Scott um [00:18:19] Potter of the SE Department I've been in [00:18:23] um I've been chatting with him for [00:18:25] probably about two years now about the [00:18:27] situation so we're experiencing a very [00:18:30] very um overwhelming unbearable smell of [00:18:34] sewer gases that are coming directly [00:18:36] through our roof vent pipe um we live [00:18:39] off of Hardwick Road and so I know that [00:18:41] that has been an ongoing issue for quite [00:18:43] some time now um and this began when we [00:18:47] had re-rooted our sewer system about 2 [00:18:49] years ago and um there's [00:18:53] just it's unbearable and it's it's just [00:18:57] it's toxic and and we have we can't do [00:19:00] anything about it um so he Scott had [00:19:03] provided some you know different ideas [00:19:06] he said well you know every sewer smells [00:19:08] every septic system smells but if you [00:19:11] can't be outside of your house or have [00:19:13] your windows open that is a different [00:19:15] problem um and it's not a septic system [00:19:18] cuz we would take care of that if that [00:19:19] were it so we are looking for some type [00:19:22] of guidance or support or um something [00:19:26] anything that can be done that is [00:19:28] not our responsibility at the meeting in [00:19:31] November it was stated as homeowner [00:19:33] responsibility um but we are [00:19:35] just unaware of how we can mitigate this [00:19:39] and how we can solve this [00:19:41] problem so when you say that um it got [00:19:46] moved it got changed two years ago yes [00:19:49] what happened there could you explain [00:19:51] that yes so our sewer line um it was [00:19:53] original to the house from the' 60s and [00:19:56] it had gone um through our neighbor's [00:19:57] property [00:19:58] and it was it was extremely long and it [00:20:00] had gone obviously to Hardwick Road um [00:20:04] and instead of tearing up our neighbors [00:20:06] lawn um the we had a sewer company and [00:20:10] they um they ran it to kind of the end [00:20:13] of our driveway and they' rerouted it to [00:20:16] again to Hardwick road but it's closer [00:20:19] so it is a direct line and we have you [00:20:22] know obviously larger pipes um to meet [00:20:24] the standards and with that direct line [00:20:27] all the gases are coming directly up [00:20:29] through roet and go ahead um do you have [00:20:35] the did they put together like a design [00:20:38] when they routed this line for you do [00:20:40] you [00:20:41] have they should have submitted some [00:20:43] kind of like a plan to Scot or somebody [00:20:46] does somebody have that plan um they [00:20:48] must I know that they had you know [00:20:50] pulled it gotten the permits I know um [00:20:52] Scot the highway department everybody [00:20:54] was involved when it first happened um [00:20:57] and they did as far as I know everything [00:20:59] was done accordingly because what should [00:21:02] be in there there should be a a check [00:21:04] valve that prevents right anything from [00:21:07] coming from that line back at you so I [00:21:11] had inquired about that after the fact [00:21:14] so I mean again we were how would we [00:21:16] know that this would happen um and so [00:21:18] Scott did check into that and that is [00:21:20] not a requirement um that could have [00:21:23] been placed on if we had requested it [00:21:26] which we obviously would have had we [00:21:28] known that this would be happening um so [00:21:31] it's it's not [00:21:34] required this is you're on high road [00:21:38] pressure system and well it's a pressure [00:21:41] system coming through there right down [00:21:43] on high road pressure system I think [00:21:46] ends at the pumpking station no it would [00:21:50] end just above where you're [00:21:52] tied that's right cuz it would [00:21:55] end at I think it's PA [00:21:59] right it's right up above that I think [00:22:02] yeah cuz you're you're at like the [00:22:03] intersection High [00:22:05] Street your your line is at the [00:22:08] intersection like of high road and Har [00:22:11] Road yes we have a good map [00:22:14] here who is they who is they [00:22:18] uh our SE um it was a company out of [00:22:22] Rutland I think it was JV and it's been [00:22:26] two years so I working for the town uh [00:22:29] it was an independent company they hired [00:22:32] yeah we hired them we paid for it just [00:22:35] just trying to [00:22:41] get I've been involved in the [00:22:43] correspondence been copied and Scott has [00:22:46] gone out there he's had the plumbing [00:22:48] inspector out there sping with Scott [00:22:49] about this and the vent pipe was hot [00:22:53] yeah and he's definitely suggesting that [00:22:56] something be done but not through the [00:22:58] sewer department he doesn't feel that [00:23:00] it's the sewer [00:23:01] department that's causing it or our town [00:23:05] right infrastructure the same I I would [00:23:08] think that between the building [00:23:09] inspector and our plumbing [00:23:12] inspector everybody should they'll take [00:23:15] a look cuz this is this isn't [00:23:20] normal so if they all take a look maybe [00:23:23] they can figure out what's going on [00:23:25] maybe a check valve in her case [00:23:28] was necessary would be a necessary thing [00:23:31] but let's I think if we have our [00:23:34] Inspectors make sure that it's not a [00:23:37] internal issue with the house which just [00:23:40] to clarify and then we'll have to [00:23:43] go elsewhere to talk to like an engineer [00:23:45] or something and figure [00:23:47] out we'll have to keep track of who did [00:23:50] it the company that did the installation [00:23:54] right yeah yeah okay I mean I do have [00:23:56] I'm sure the paperwork file some we at [00:23:58] home um but I mean we had to pay you [00:24:02] know almost $30,000 to have this done [00:24:04] out of our own Pockets so then to have [00:24:06] this problem now and then for it to be [00:24:09] on our shoulders again um we just I mean [00:24:12] we can't we can't do that right so I if [00:24:15] you are willing to look into that and um [00:24:19] and I can provide any information that [00:24:20] you need I'd be glad to do [00:24:22] so well we got to help figure this out [00:24:27] oh absolutely figure out what the [00:24:29] problem is where why why it's happening [00:24:32] right right I mean Scott believes that [00:24:34] whatever information he has that [00:24:36] something within the house but the [00:24:38] plumbing inspector should be able to [00:24:40] look at that verify that everything [00:24:43] inside the house is correct right and if [00:24:46] that's the case then it it most likely [00:24:49] is outside the house you're up above [00:24:52] there's an elevation there right you're [00:24:54] coming downhill to hardw road so maybe [00:24:57] it's [00:24:58] well I don't know I not only enough [00:25:00] composting [00:25:02] to it's it's almost like it's acting [00:25:05] like their thing is acting like a stin [00:25:08] PL right right so which that's usually [00:25:11] why you put backers right into [00:25:16] pump that to be able to kick back at him [00:25:20] but yeah and you're a breather your stin [00:25:22] pipe is hot Scott was talking about my [00:25:25] husband had mentioned that um he had [00:25:27] gone up onto the roof during the [00:25:29] summertime um so I don't know if that is [00:25:31] directly related spot seems to think [00:25:33] it's not I mean it could have been just [00:25:36] summer because it was summer um and so [00:25:39] his his main concern was um we had [00:25:41] mentioned that two times that there was [00:25:43] a smell of super gas in the house first [00:25:45] time when was we were having a [00:25:46] renovation done and the toilet wasn't [00:25:48] properly plugged um that hasn't been a [00:25:51] problem so it's not inside it's it's [00:25:54] it's outside like and it hasn't happened [00:25:57] um um while Eagle Hill has been on break [00:25:59] for Thanksgiving and Christmas it is [00:26:03] directly when they come back it's like [00:26:04] Wednesday Thursday Friday nights um it's [00:26:07] it's literally unbearable and it is [00:26:10] outside I mean as soon as you pull into [00:26:12] our road or into our driveway even our [00:26:13] neighbors we have new neighbors um were [00:26:16] asking us what you know was happening [00:26:18] what's wrong with yeah and you know it I [00:26:20] mean it looks poorly on us and it's and [00:26:23] it's definitely not [00:26:26] us sounds like [00:26:29] but I'm speaking on a term just not not [00:26:33] seeing it but right not seeing it but so [00:26:36] as a board of Select as a select board [00:26:39] we [00:26:41] um see if we can get tell our inspectors [00:26:45] on [00:26:46] it right yep could I just have your name [00:26:50] and address for the record and so I have [00:26:52] it for yep it's Bobby BBI hyphen Jean j [00:26:57] last name is lanard l n i I've in the emails is your phone is [00:27:20] your phone number in the emails um [00:27:23] signature probably not it is 978 okay 25 [00:27:27] 7 [00:27:29] 2674 okay I'll be in touch thank you [00:27:32] apprciate it [00:27:37] m I said it unless you if it's going out [00:27:40] it's doesn't make sense so [00:27:45] right could be a bad installation [00:27:48] horrible to horrible I know I thought we [00:27:52] were gaining ground on the smell down [00:27:53] there too so except for your house it [00:27:56] seems [00:27:58] I wish it's flammable too no [00:28:01] smoking well it's dangerous yeah it's [00:28:05] just disgusting yeah yeah thank [00:28:11] you [00:28:12] right any other new [00:28:16] business any other old [00:28:19] business any other visitors [00:28:22]
